Airport English

The first thing you need to know about flying is that you can take two bags. One bag must be checked in. Your check-in baggage has a weight limit; it must be less than 22kgs. You will check in that bag in Gimhae and you won’t see that bag again until we get to Australia, so anything you might want on the airplane (like books to read, toothbrush etc) you should keep in your Carry-On Baggage.

Your other bag is called carry-on baggage. Your carry on baggage can be as heavy as you like, but it has a size limit, but it must be no bigger than your normal school bag. Even though your carry-on baggage doesn’t have a weight limit, remember that you must carry it with you at all times, so you don’t want it to be too heavy. Also in your carry-on baggage you cannot take any dangerous items. Dangerous items are any items that are sharp, like scissors, pocket knife or anything made of metal. You cannot take spray cans in either of you bags. If you take any of these things the airport security will take them away and you won’t get them back.

Airport security guards are your friends. If you have a problem or you get lost or you cannot find the rest of the group, you must go to airport security straight away and tell them:

1) My name is _______________.

2) I am from Korea.

3) I am going to Australia.

4) Ben Anderson is my teacher. He is from Australia.

If you cannot find airport security, go straight to an airport shop, every shopkeeper will be happy to help you find them. Remember that once we leave Seoul, nobody will be able to speak Korean, so in Singapore and Australia you must use English. I will give you an identity card when we meet at the Gimhae airport. You can also show that to the airport security guards.



We will make a Buddy System for helping each other in the airport. will have 3 people in each group. You must look after your buddies and they will look after you. Let’s make buddy groups now. Write your buddies’ names here:



This will be our plan to get from Gimhae to Adelaide:

1) Go to baggage check-in. Here we will check in our ‘check-in’ baggage.

2) Then we will go to our departure gate. There we will board the airplane to Seoul.

3) In Gimpo airport in Seoul we will take a shuttle bus to Incheon airport.

4) In Incheon airport we will go through customs and find our departure gate for Singapore.

5) When we land in Singapore we will go to a transit lounge (not an exit) and wait at our correct gate for our plane to Adelaide.

6) When we get to Adelaide we will go straight to baggage claim.

7) After we get our bags we will go through customs again and then we will be free to go to Kangaroo Island.
